Georgia Preference Laws
Georgia uses reciprocity when awarding bids for the same goods or services. This means that Georgia gives in-state suppliers the same preference as other states do for their own in-state bidders.
In the case of a tie, the state is legally allowed to preferentially select an in-state or local bidder for a contract if the bid matches that of an out-of-state source. You can view State-by-State Reciprocal Preference Data online.
All state entities are required to give preference to suppliers who live in Georgia when awarding bids for goods or services. This preference is used for evaluation purposes only.
The state of Georgia also gives preference to the use of compost and mulch in all road building, land maintenance and land development activities. Preference is extended to compost and mulch that is made in the state from organic materials that are separated from the state's solid waste stream.
