How to Dispose of Surplus State Boats
Boats may be redistributed to an eligible state entity, local government, nonprofit, or sold at public auction. This process begins in the AssetWorks System. After all the required information has been entered, the Surplus Property Division will determine the best disposal method for the boat.
- Addresses and contact information where the boat is physically located
- Quality photos of the boat, motor, and trailer (information on what photos should include can be found in Appendix F of the AssetWorks User Guide)
- The best inspection and removal dates and times and any relevant location information, such as barriers or codes needed to access the property
- A description of each item pertaining to National Stock Number (NSN) code by 4-Digit Year, Make, Model, HIN/VIN/Serial Number. (HIN – Hull Identification Number)
- An inspection form for each boat; include the dimensions, all relevant information, wheel/tire size, tow hitch size, and explain the overall condition
- Boat registration and title (if applicable)
- Information such as the acquisition cost, whether there is any damage, and other descriptive details, such as whether it was used in fresh or saltwater
- Log into AssetWorks and create a Surplus Request from the Surplus tab with the appropriate method selected.
- Create new assets. Boats, Motors, and Trailers are listed on separate asset lines.
- Complete and attach an inspection form for each boat, motor, and trailer.
- Attach photos of the boat, motor, and trailer.
- Attach registration and title (if applicable).
- The Surplus Property Division will review and receive the transaction request, determine the best disposal method, and process the transaction. You will be notified of the status via email.
- If it's a State to State transfer, the Surplus Property Division will complete the transfer.
- You must complete the title and turn over the keys and boat to the receiving state entity.
- Remove the boat from your inventory property records, referencing the transaction number as authorization.
- The receiving entity must have the title or registration transferred to their name within 30 days.
